In 1942, Beveridge spoke of “a time for revolutions”. His Report heralded an era when the power of the state was invoked against the Giants of his age, establishing the basic contours of our public services, which have endured ever since. Today we echo his call for revolution in our public services. Society is changing, spending constraints are tightening, and the limits of incremental reform are clear.

The Commission’s Interim Report argues that the need for change is pressing; we need a new approach – long-term, built on consensus, based on coherent principles. It is a call to action. The Report sets out the broad directions we think change should take.

The panellists, who represent some of the breadth of political opinion and public management experience on the Commission, will outline the report and its main principles. The panel contributions will be short; to encourage discussion amongst attendees about the Report and the framing of the final phase of the Commission’s work.

Those attending the launch will include public service managers, civil servants, policy makers and public service deliverers. We hope you can make it.
